I am learning to make a movie using clips that my classmates have recorded into imovie. I am using my teacher's laptop to do this and it is tricky dropping and dragging the clips into the right spot.

Happy Birthday Canada!

Our teacher Mrs. Barks is originally from Canada. To celebrate July 1 - which is Canada's birthday, we had a special assembly and this is a video that she and her husband (who teaches in room 18) showed us. Both classes also got on stage to sing the Canadian national anthem and another song called "I am Canadian." Mr. and Mrs. Barks told us some great stories about camping in northern Saskatchewan with the bears and HUGE mosquitoes!

As if all of this wasn't already exciting enough, ... the Canadian Consulate and Trade Office in Auckland sent us some Canadian flag tattoos, pens, pins, and balloons!! Room 12 and 18 got to wear the tattoos and we gave the other items out as special prizes at the assembly.

Hope you enjoy this video as much as we did!!

Smelling Beautiful

Rave is learning to add more detail to her sentences. She edited her writing with her teacher and here is what they came up with.

Remember to wash the bacteria and germs off your hands. If you don't, the germs will make you sick.

Squirt a bit of soap on your hands and rub them together until they are covered with bubbles. Remember to clean the backs of your hands and between your fingers. Dry them with a towel or a dryer.

Now that your hands are nice and beautiful smelling, you are able to eat because you don't have lots and lots of germs on your hands anymore.

Don't Forget

Ofa is learning to write an introduction and to add detail to her sentences. She had lots of great ideas and edited her work with her teacher....here is what they came up with.

It is important to wash your hands because you might get sick from the bacteria if you don't.

First you have to get some soap and water and scrub your hands. Don't forget to scrub between your fingers and around your wrists. Rinse off the soapy bubbles and dry with a towel.

I hope all the girls and boys will wash there hands so they do not get sick.

I Hope You Remember

Do you know why you need to wash your hands? People need to wash their hands so they can keep clean and stay healthy.

Make sure you wet your hands before putting soap on so that you can work up a good lather. Remember to scrub your palms, in between your fingers, and scrape under your finger nails. Don't forget to rinse completely until all the bubbles are gone. Dry your hands with a towel.

I hope that everyone remembers to wash their hands because I do not want anybody to get sick...because that might make me sick as well!

Don't Get Sick

Sione is working on a piece of writing about hand washing. He is learning to write complete sentences that make sense and have extra details. This is what he has so far.

After you go to the toilet, you have to wash your hands. If you don't wash your hands and you eat your lunch, you will get sick from the germs.

Hey You

Liku is learning to write an introduction paragraph. Check out his introduction for his written account of how to wash hands.

Hey you!! Don't forget to wash your hands after you use the bathroom. If you don't wash, the bacteria will make you sick.

Wash Properly

Christopher worked especially hard on his writing this week and then edited it with a buddy...here's what the two of them came up with.

It's important to wash your hands after using the toilet because your hands will be covered in harmful bacteria.

You have to put water on first and then soap. Scrub between your palms, the backs of your hands, and under your fingernails. Rinse your hands until all the soap bubbles and germs are gone.

If you wash properly, you won't get sick from toilet germs.

Swept Up

Faith edited her writing with the teacher and worked really hard to include details which would make it more interesting for an audience.

I watched the news and saw that there was a tornado in Albany. Did you watch it?

During the terrible tornado which sounded like a rumbling, roaring, jet plane, things like trampolines, swing sets, and lawn furniture were swept up and tossed around. Cars with children inside were overturned and smashed.

Terrible and Shocking

There was a shocking and terrible tornado up in North Shore!

Like all tornadoes, it started with a storm and a funnel cloud. Things like cars, trampolines, trees, roofs of houses, and garages were lifted up and overturned.

Luckily, it did not hit AUCKLAND!

Clean, Soft, and Smelling Good

Kane worked hard and had some great ideas about giving instructions for proper hand-washing. He worked with his teacher to edit....here's what they came up with.

Did you wash your hands before you had your lunch? It is so important to wash away bacteria and germs. Once your hands are wet, grab some soap and start scrubbing. Make sure there is no dirt, grease, or oil between your fingers or on the backs of your hands. Rinse under the tap and dry them with a clean towel.

When I wash this way, my hands feel clean and soft. They smell good too!

Devastating Tornado

There was a devastating tornado in Albany. The tornado was so huge and deadly that one person died and many others were injured. It was so powerful that it swept up cars and uprooted trees.

North Shore Tornado

Paula worked really hard to edit his paragraph with his teacher.

It was a horrible day in North Shore when the funnel cloud formed into a tornado. When the tail of the cloud touched the ground, the tornado started to move and left a path of destruction. I saw it on the news.

I hope it does not happen again.

Squiggling Worms

We recently read a book about a king who didn't want to get out of the bathtub to go fishing with his knight so he turned his tub into a fish pond instead. Here are a couple of sentences that Cowan wrote to describe what was happening in the picture.

The King was fishing inside the tub. The squiggling worms were escaping from the side of the tub.

Rainy Day

Sione had written a paragraph about a rainy day, and his writing group worked with him to edit it....here's what they came up with.

I was so excited when I saw that it was raining outside! I went to my mum to ask if I could go out to play. She said, "Yes my dear boy you may go out."

Scary Looking King

Liku wrote a couple of sentences about a picture from one of our favourite stories - Kingbidgood's In The Bathtub.

What a scary looking king who changed his bathtub into a pond so that people could go fishing. There was a frog peeking over the lily pad and a slippery, slimy, snail trying to escape from the bath tub.

Mrs. Burt The Singing Sensation

Mrs. Barks had a silly dream about Mrs. Burt playing a piano. Isn't that crazy? Well this is how it started. We all had to go to the hall for assembly. After we were all seated in our place, all of us were waiting to see who the person was that was going to perform. The students and parents were all surprised when they saw Mrs. Burt play the piano. Soon she started to sing...it was beautiful like magic. When Mrs. Barks came to school the next morning, she told Mrs. Burt about the dream. Mrs. Burt said she knew how to play the piano and that when she was little, she had to sing and play. Isn't that crazy?

Update on Room 12

Hi everyone. We thought you'd be interested to know how hard we have been working this week. It is testing week here at Pt. England School! We are busy writing tests in math, writing, and reading. Our brains are starting to feel very sore and tired. The good news is that tomorrow is Thursday and we get to practice our baseball skills with Cola - a real, professional baseball player who is teaching us the game!!!

Zala Runs For Her Life

Ok, this needs some explanation. Cezar and Taka worked really hard to make this animation - our class's second attempt at this sort of still shot animation. We used the green cloth in hopes of green screening in a forest background. However, we soon realized that we had too many shadows - caused by the wrinkles in our green cloth, and the green screen didn't work. We decided to show it to you anyways, and it is back to work for us - to get it right in attempt number 3.

This animation is based on the story "Zala Runs For Her Life." It is about a family of mice who are almost a dinosaur's lunch.

Here we are busy, busy, busy, asking questions, collecting data, and displaying our information - as part of our statistics learning.

We Gave It A Go....

This is our very first attempt at making this kind of still photo animation. We didn't worry about our background scenery this time, because we just wanted to figure out how to make it work. We had such a blast!!!
